How does acetaminophen work (mechanism of action)?
It isn't completely understood how acetaminophen works to help pain but it is thought that it stops certain pain pathways in the central nervous system. Acetaminophen helps fevers by temporarily turning off the temperature center of the brain.

Acetaminophen shouldn’t be taken if your child has had an anaphylactic reaction (hives or swelling of the tongue) to acetaminophen previously.Â

Tips & Tricks to administer acetaminophen
If your child is having difficulty taking acetaminophen (liquid or tablets), it can be mixed in some foods or beverages. Please keep in mind that if a medication is mixed with food or drink, it should be taken immediately. The mixture should not be saved or consumed later.
