What is zinc oxide used for? 

Zinc oxide is a medication that can be applied to your child’s skin that can typically be used for

  • Diaper rash (prevention and treatment)

  • Temporary relief of rectal burning, itching and discomfort due to hemorrhoids


How does zinc oxide work? 

Zinc oxide is an astringent (tightens and dries the skin) and antiseptic (helps prevent growth of bacteria or other microorganisms). 


What are the most common side effects of zinc oxide?

  • Irritation at the site that zinc oxide was applied.


Contraindications 

Zinc oxide shouldn’t be taken if your child has had a reaction (irritation, discomfort) to zinc oxide. 


How should I store zinc oxide

  • Store at room temperature

  • Do not store at temperatures greater than 85 degrees fahrenheit
